As owner and master stylist at the multi award-winning Calgary salon dk.envy, Dar leads a team of industry trendsetters with more than 20 years worth of satisfied and wowed clientele.
Daughter of a 30-year stylist veteran, Dar—as she is fondly called by clients— graduated from Hair College at 18 This is where the journey began and where loyal regulars prompted the opening of her first home-based salon in 2004.
But the dream was bigger…
Reaching capacity quickly encouraged Dar to open her first 1000 sq. ft. retail salon: dk.envy was unleashed upon the un-coiffed masses! Loyal clients’ word of mouth gave way to new clients, with Dar’s fresh take and innovative techniques driving the business even further—almost sidelining her in the process. A collapsed wrist meant surgery, with a prognosis against ever doing hair professionally again. Lucky for YYC, she recovered, and the rest, as they say, is shear history.
An ever-growing clientele base saw the need for an even bigger space to accommodate demand. The second and current incarnation of dk.envy opened it’s doors in 2008, with more than 1900 square feet of chic urban-inspired digs, always awash in buzz and excitement. Now mentoring a new generation of talents in the process, Dar prides herself on continuously keeping abreast of trends and techniques, with industry education the crux of staying atop her craft.
Success has also given rise to dk.envy’s desire to give back. Participation in the community within which it serves has seen the support of local charities such as The Mother’s Day Run & Walk, Locks of Love, and countless community sports teams and organizations.
